Bad influencers

If it weren't for you guys I'd never would have wanted to upgrade from my MS250.

 

You're right, they are bad influencers. Good influencers would have steered you to Husqvarna. Nice saw BTW.

 

Quite an upgrade. Doubling your amount of MS's surely must double your fun

Ummm, no. Unless its an XS 346 XP or XS 543xp build.

 

You don't mess around! Usually, people will get talked into a 50cc pro saw. Next you get the "you really need two saws, a 70cc would complement that 50cc so well!" Then you start wondering what a larger saw would be like. Not you! Heck no, lets go straight for the big gun!

 

It was less than a year old at a good price I couldn't pass up. I was looking at something in the 55-60cc range then I saw this

Holy chit! You dont mess around Dave. Run it with a 20" bar for most cutting knowing you can run 25, 28" etc when needed. My usual MO with my 500. Be sure to have enough mix on hand. It gulps fuel.

It came with a 25" bar.
It was dark when I got home with it last night and running errands this morning. Maybe around noon is today.
I was worse than a kid on Christmas last night. I was almosr shaking with excitement. Now I'm bit afraid of the power

 

I was thinking a 22" bar most the time. Knowing I got the 25" when needed

 

I'd suggest giving the 25" a fair chance. It really can help with the bending over.

 

LOL!!! Up until six years ago all i ever ran was an MS290 (56cc) saw with a 16" bar. When i acquired my MS460 (76cc) saw and first ran it with a 28" bar it was rather intimidating. I thought i was Paul Bunion when i first used it that way. I picked up a 20" bar for it and boy is it fun to cut big logs with. Funny thing at the time lots of big oak had come available to me and i shied away from it due to my saw.

The 500 has lightning fast acceleration.

All depends on ones cutting habits too. Im guessing my years of using only a 16" i developed the "use the dawgs" cutting technique most of the time.

 

16, 20, 24, 28, 32….are common sizes that you can walk into most any dealer and buy a chain.
Learn to keep the chain sharp and keep the rakers filed properly and you might enjoy the reach of the longer bar. If you need to use the dogs to cut firewood, your chain needs work.

 

I dont often get them "perfectly sharp" and its a pleasant surprise when i do.

Have a little 462 with 20” 25” and 28” bar. Many may wonder why so many different sizes. Came with 28, wanted to try smaller, dealer only had a 20. Ended up getting a 25 because I think that’s a nice match for the saw. I get some bigger logs and my spine doesn’t bend well. The 20 does add a little fun tho, cuts like a monster with the little bar

Put a big set of dawgs on it and the 25 will feel closer to the 22. See I’m saving you some money LOL
