Wow! What a beautiful place. Those mountains are absolutely amazing!
Headed down Thursday morning, spent 3 days riding the atv's/sxs's and (reluctantly) came back Monday.
Put 200 miles on the Hatfield McCoy trails.

The group. Me and Mrs. TD in the middle (blue shirts)...all smiles!

Of coarse, this is coal country. A seam of coal as we rounded a ridge.

A little clean up after the ride...

Still don't know if this was a quarry that they put a road thru or if all the cuts were made just to make the road :jaw:

    We stayed in Matewan Wv.
Matewan is the home to some of America’s most colorful history. The town sits at the heart of the Hatfield-McCoy Feud country and hosted the beginnings of a movement to reform fair working conditions and the right to unionize following the Mine Wars, Matewan Massacre and Battle of Blair Mountain in the early parts of the twentieth century.

Just across the river is Kentucky
Amazing history! but so sad at the same time!!

A look up from a small dock next to the river. The high water mark is about 40 feet above the river.

The flood walls encircle the town of Matewan and there are even gates the close off the Norfolk Southern RR tracks. It also cuts off the bridge into Kentucky.
The river isn't really that big. Maybe 100-120 feet wide and several feet deep.

Thought we had pics of the gates at the rail road but I can't find them...:emb:

Yes. All the swelling is down just a little purple left in my toes. A bit of a lump still where the saw hit my shin. Doing good today. I think the riding was good therapy! Lol
