Found this on youtube- The Powder Wedge! It's something that was sold by Sears Roebuck into the early 1900's. Uses a black powder explosion to split logs. I can't see why they took them off the market, looks like a great tool and a great time!

My dad has one of those; it used to belong to my grandfather. I don't think he's ever used it. Looks like fun! :rootintootin:

You're right, I don't know about precision splitting, but I'll bet it would come in handy on some stumps! So much more entertaining than a stump grinder...

    Interesting and could be fun.

I used to work for a man who loved to blow out stumps. He was not happy unless you could use at least 3 sticks of dynamite and usually used more. It was amazing how high stuff would fly. We used to go a long ways back but always worried about his dog and that thing would really get excited and wanted to run up to the hole as quickly as possible to see what it could find. Trouble was getting the dog to hold back!

I liked it. I have never seen one before. You wouldn't get much CSS in a day, but I like things that go boom.

Don't remember but that was back in the 50's so no doubt it was cheap compared to today.
