Cycling in Gallatin County, Kentucky over the weekend and saw the tobacco spikes loaded and waiting for the tobacco to be cut. In my area that's a sure sign of fall, no matter what the temperature is.
I'm patiently waiting for a better sign; like the lowering of the temperature by at least 20 degrees! But my patience is running low right now. Think I'll have another beer.
52 dead squirrels along the road to work today, on a 20-mile stretch of interstate. Radio says a bumper crop of acorns last year made for an easy winter, and now the young have been kicked out and everyone is scrambling for territory and food. In related squirrel news, we discovered while kayaking this weekend they swim across the Connecticut River - passed 4 different squirrels. Three were going to VT. Rumor is that’s where the nuts are.
I'm waiting for some dammed relief from this heat and humidity! This weekend will feel a little "fall-like", if the weatherman actually has it right....
Noticed a chipmunk busy at my wood shed yesterday. We have a hazel nut tree nearby and he is evidently ferrying nuts for storage in the stacked wood. I have in the past put rat poison at the shed but will relent this year!
I think a bunch of the little devils hitched or hobo'd out to Colorado. ....and they're in my apple trees. I do battle w/them daily. Got my squirrel dog that alerts me when they're in the trees... I go after them w/water hose or limb trimmer pole. Must give my neighbors a good laugh ......everyday.
