Went to PaDCNR maintained atv/snowmachine trail system around a half hour west of us. My son took the video with the GoPro Helmet Cam. He did pretty good!!

    Weather conditions:

    Start: 12pm 24F
    High: 28F
    Scattered snow showers

    Trail Conditions:

Main trails negotiable w/a 10" base
Side trails..... a mess, aka more fun

Very nice, up here they won't let the atv/utv's on the trails in the winter.

Same here. There is minimal places to ride ATV's in the winter. Most trails are snowmachine only. Its a nice break from summertime riding. Pennsylvania is one of the rockiest areas in the country (aside from out west of course) and it takes the trail volunteers a lot of hard sweaty hours to keep them ideal for riding. Of course I love those black trails, back when I had the jeep. Possible going up again next weekend, a friend the wife and I. When my son is along, I ride alittle lighter...... o_O

Here was a short but steep section we did. The video doesn't snow the steepness, but it was. After we ascend the hill, my son decides to walk back down. He slides on his butt in the one frame, but falls in another.....

Tires are the easiest thing to upgrade to improve performance.
    Most $$ too.
Some snow types though it don't matter, you can just get buried faster.
Go farther before your stuck ;)

I put on rear chains for in the woods, & snow. (have a set for the front but haven't needed them yet)

Thought you had a winch. That'd be first.
Not bad to DIY for all of it. (except the tires, PIA to break the safety bead)

It did well in the snow. Threw it in diff lock for the steep stuff. My wife's honda being only 2wd, she'll need chains next time around. All in all, she held her own as she usually does.

    Grizzly's have a 4 wheel lock ? Good feature.

You keep getting winters like this.
Might need to buy a Yamaha sled.
    More toys :)

Yup, 4 wheel lock. First time I've used it. Power steering is nice, definitely lowers fatigue, and down hill assist, rarely do I use the brakes. What's next.... a backup camera? Lol

    Yea
4 wheel lock a good feature, power steering is a great feature too, they are getting heavy & harder to steer.

The side by sides are getting to be more & more popular here.
They can't go where the single ATVs go but are more comfortable.
Like a small jeep. When it rains & gets muddy, they get high centered & need winched out.

Will make do with mine for a while. Al long as they keep me from carrying
weight on my back, I can get it thru just about anything with the winch & a buddy.

Some have the snow track kits, high maintenance though.

Keep 4 on the floor ;)

Nice videos WS!! Looks like a great time was had by all. Brave little man for sitting on the back going up those hills.

I remember doing the same thing g with my father. I always said I wasn't afraid and that I would stay on the Quad, but deep down inside, it scared the Crap out of me

Have since done the same thing with my son. Now that he has bigger ATV, he wants to climb steeper hills than I do. o_O Kids these days

I did quite a bit of snow riding over the weekend. Total powder and slicker than snot, but I was able to go anywhere I wanted. Only got stuck once...basically in my front yard. I wasn't paying attention and high centered it on the plow drift between the road and the yard :emb:

    LOL
    You "Turtled".

I do that in snow several times per year.
Turtleing in mud, swamp or muskeg are the real bad ones, I call that officially stuck :)
