Wife comes home from school last Tuesday and says "I seen a house that has lots of free wood in the front yard"...and she had pictures!!! I took a look and seen lots of Pine, but there was a tree or two that looked like Oak...and I seen a big ole Oak right next door in the neighbors yard so I kinda figured it was worth the 10 minute drive to go check it out (with saws loaded up of course) Turned out I couldn't get there Tuesday night...or Wednesday, got called back to work as soon as I got home Thursday night and I just said screw it on Friday night. Finally made it this past Saturday morning...was happy to see a little Oak left and a big ole ugly hard Maple trunk...lots of branches, some crotches, but probably 36" across and 7' long. My back hurt so bad by the time I got all this cut, quartered, and loaded in the truck that I couldn't bear to top the load off with some Pine...which was disappearing fast BTW, surprisingly I didn't have any competition for the hardwood. This stuff was heavy, the ole F250 was squattin on the way home like I had 'er loaded level with the top of the cab! I went home and popped 2 Ibuprofen, 1 Acetaminophen, and a muscle relaxer, ate lunch and crawled (literally) in bed for a nap. Got up 2 hours later and peeked out the window at my fine lookin load of BTUs...totally worth the pain (FHC forever!) Gotta say though...pretty impressed that the Mrs. noticed this honeyhole...and stopped to get pics! Atta girl! I didn't get any pics before the snow blew in Saturday night...I'll see if I can get a loaded truck pic for y'all before I CSS it...
Yep that is how you get those free BTU's. I like the fact that she took pictures so you could see for your self if it was worth going back. Smart Wife you have there.
Funny, my wife squirms every time I mention finding wood on Craigslist or anywhere else for that matter. I put her through the ringer on several snowy weekends two years ago cleaning up some wood. That and I have a huge pile of 6 ft ash logs outback I need to get cut up. I tell her it's a process. When it's 0 out later this week and I remind her the house is 75 degrees, she perks up!!!!!
My girl has come around also , she'll help me split n I'll let her do the splitter and I load and stack. And if she ever sees wood somewhere she lets me no ASAP and I'm on the way lol
I jump in and help people when I can and no charge for my labor, so if I can find a scrounge then I'm not worried about tallying up my labor...It's good exercise and keeps me warm...
It was a joke you know as in free wood is not really free due to the work involved, if I have to explain it...........
Here ya go buddy...finally got the weather and the camera to co-operate on the same day...this is the load minus 4 chunks already unloaded so I could try out my new Fiskars 8# maul on 'em...so far, not impressed but to be fair I think this is gonna turn out to be some exceptionally tough "yard tree" wood...
1. hydraulic 2.log 3.splitter Hmmm... You right though...I bet they don't stand up to 24 tons concentrated on a knifes edge very well...
