I have been waiting for Black Friday for the Harbor Freight Atlas 80 volt chainsaw. I have stores equal distance from home. I noticed both stores have on their discount tables- there are 40 volt saws there. One store has three; the other one has one. while i am interested in the 80 v unit, I am getting a stay away vibe on the other. Anyone have any experience with either? I think a cordless should be in the saw inventory for days you have a quick job and don’t want to smell like two-stroke
The problem with HF, and don't get me wrong I am a HF fan and have lots of their junk, is that they will drop a line and go to something else pretty often. I love their hand tools. I also took a dive into the 20v Bauer line. Which I chose because they have in Estes in so many tools for it that I figured they would keep it around awhile. As you see the 40v is on clearance, will the 80v end up there soon, or will 80v be around for awhile ? Will it be 100v next year? And usually when they drop the line you can't get more batteries, let alone tools, so that might make a difference if you buy it.
About 30 years ago when HF opened here it was a super store, picked up two 3 ton floor jacks floor at $25 each a great 4" steel vice $15, and many other needed tools at super low prices. Today HF is not so great still have lots of tools but prices are really a lot higher, i understand shipping is a lot higher and the cost of doing business is a lot higher. I was going to get their pole chainsaw but reading the reviews told me people were having trouble with them, went with a Sunjoy from amazon. My battery chain saw in a Hart 12 inch 24 volt their carried at Walmart, it really has worked well, they also have a 14"&18" there 40 volt.
HF , I am out on that one. I can't say that they don't have some good deals on things like that 1 & 27/64 socket that only works on left hand threads that you will only use once ; but electrical tools I will pass on.
right? buy good smelling 2 stoke oil like amsoil Sabre and you'll smell like race gas. I know my wife loves that smell too. Now that Tru Fuel canned premix, that stuff REEKS! it has a really acrid smell and I cannot stand smelling that stuff after being run in a saw. It burns my nostrils. My buddy with the Bobcat Toolcat runs that stuff in his saw at my recommendation since he doesn't run his saw very often, but I have to be upwind of him running that fuel.
If I had a quick job that all I needed was a horror freight battery chainsaw, I would get a hand saw or ax at anywhere but horrible freight.
