ATF shelves controversial bullet ban proposal Published March 10, 2015 FoxNews.com DEVELOPING ... The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is shelving a controversial proposal to ban a popular type of bullet, amid opposition from hundreds of congressional lawmakers. The ATF said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue the final guidelines "at this time." The proposal pertained to M855 "green tip" ammunition, used in the AR-15 rifle; regulators looked at banning it because can pierce police body armor. The ATF said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue final guidelines "at this time." The agency said it will instead wait until Americans have finished commenting on the federal regulations and evaluate their comments and suggestions before "proceeding with any framework." The statement follows 52 senators and 238 House members joining in opposition to any attempt the Obama administration might make to ban the ammo. "ATF will not at this time seek to issue a final framework," the agency said Tuesday. "The issues raised (so far) in the comments ATF has received to date will require further consideration, and fully processing all of the comments will take time. Given the overwhelming interest in this issue, and the issues raised in the comments received so far, ATF will not at this time issue a final framework."
Geez... my brother sent me the ban info from the NRA a few weeks ago. I have a LOT of AR-15 ammo of all types.
Somewhere I read/heard it was already written into the rules book before it was a done deal. Enough logical minded folks must have reached through to the logical few on the other end that this is/was in no way a common handgun round - which was the caveat that they attempted to ban it under. Hell the military won't use it because of its poor performance, that's the only reason its available as surplus. We (gun owners) know it was the start to get the cascade bans on 5.56/.223
This isn't over... ATF will wait till everyone's head is turned and try to ram this through anyway. Gun owners must remain vigilant in these trying times.
I would personally like to thank all the panic buyers for making my mortgage payment this month. It'll take a while for the buying to die down on all 223 ammo I think. There are now even more people who have learned it's best to be prepared in the ammo department since we all know it'll happen again.
I agree with all your concerns that this is just the latest in what is a continuing effort, the next event is just over the horizon. Personally, I don't own a 5.56 black rifle anyway, don't like the caliber or color, wouldn't want one. My bucket list still has one of these on it though. A horse of a different color. Sign me up for one of these and a set of dies to go with it! http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/Rifles-6_5_Grendel_Hunter_Complete_Rifle.html
