I remember it being boiled or steamed from a can and stinking up the house. As a child in a big family I stomached what was on the table, but as I've grown older fresh asparagus is one of my spring favorites. I eat it like French fries, except grilled or sautéed in olive oil and touch of salt and pepper
I didn't eat it as a kid. We cook it occasionally now. Usually steam it in a covered pan to soften it then turn up the heat and give it a shot of olive oil, salt, pepper and some wet garlic at the end. Don't really love it or hate it now
Your poll is missing a category basod.... -loved it then, love it more now, and chuckle when I pizz up an asparagus stank in the restroom at work for the next dude to soak up. Picked fresh along some of these country gravel road fence rows around here is THE only way to get asparagus.... The season is just about to kick off, here.
Never had it as a kid, so I wouldn't know. Now I love it, though I don't have it often. But we had it tonight!
My first spear was in my early 20s so dunno, but both my rugrats eat it. I think they get a kick out of their stinky pee later.... me too.
I have always enjoyed asparagus...even as a child. The canned stuff is far from the fresh stuff-as we all know.
love the stuff from a garden hate the stuff from a can or even big companies frozen. mom had a 500 square foot asparagus bed. that's is good. unfortunately like rhubarb and strawberry it takes a few years to establish a good bed
Can't say that I love it, but I like it now. Sautéed in olive oil with a touch of salt and pepper, just getting a hint of char. One of those rites of spring. Stinky pee is a bonus.
