Went back to the place of my red oak score today to see how much ash I could grab. Ended up with a full truck of ash and a little more oak. It was a bugger pulling it out of brush, but it was there, free and sort of close to home. I have about a cord of ash still on my property that needs cutting and splitting from last year's tree dropping carnage, but might as well hoard on. Some of the ash I got today was light and almost punky, but it is good for shoulder seasons I figure.
I was missing it for a couple months, I couldn't find anything close by, and my son had my truck 7 days a week for work and football. Now his car is running again, so hoard on, I will. I am thinking about going back and pulling more ash out if I don't find anything else. But then again I am sitting on about 8 cords that need splitting and stacking.
I just scored some more wood this week too. We have about 18 cord split, ~13 stacked, and another 10+ to cut, split, and stack. I try to bring it home whenever I can. You can't really have too much wood, but you sure can have too little.
