Hello All - Just looking for information on this axe. I have never seen one, so I'm asking the knowledgeable members for information on this axe. I have never seen a square block like this on the pole end of the axe.
After doing a search on the internet, I was able to find that square is used for what is called a Max Multipurpose forest tool kit. The kit includes a shovel, rake,Mattock Blade,Broad Pick, and a Pick. This axe is a 3.5-lb Hudson Bay Ax Head with Striking Surface.
I got one in an auction just a week or so ago; note that it has the same gap as yours. I don't know if this is right or not; I assumed it was defective/damaged. The original is supposed to look like this: I rehandled mine. From left to right: Council Tool Jersey axe, CT Boys Axe, then the Max Axe; last an unknown sledge hammer. I've only used it once delimbing an Ash I took down. I cut a couple times with it, then went back to the Boy's Axe. It has a slightly longer handle but feels like a lot less power into the swing. I'll probably flip it. ETA: Web site for the Max Axe: THE MAX AX – Forrest Tool Company
One other thing: My Max Axe head was made by Council Tool. From top to bottom: CT Jersey axe, CT Boys axe, Max Axe: Closeup of heads, same order: Max Axe and Boys axe heads: Translation: Max Axe made 3rd quarter 2011. Boys Axe made 2nd quarter 2023 Jersey axe made 1st quarter 2023
