Chainsaw Porting Service - farm & garden - by owner - sale Is this anyone that is known here in the saw porting world?
Not anyone that I know of. The only folks I know of in Wisconsin don’t live in that part of the state.
This poor guy is getting all these hits on his ad now, thinks things are getting ready to blow up for him
I can give you a list of recognized porter's that I have personally had work done by and am Impressed with their work. Personally I wouldn't risk losing a saw for a unknown porter's
Kevin did my 036 and its a hoot. I'm on the list with the 460 in waiting. Personally anyone porting $120 home depot saws is not a serious porter.
I consider Horkn a friend… why take chances over a Benjamin in cost… when Dennis GTG is coming and save shipping
I’m not certain who that is. Could be someone that does a decent job but they are just learning. I don’t really know. Many guys don’t have a lathe to machine the squish band and base on the cylinder to add some compression. It also takes an expensive 90° shaft drive handpiece to work on the transfers that most don’t have. If he was that popular I don’t think he would be advertising on craigslist. Most guys I know of are 4 to 5 months out
I've waited over a year by choice I've told them not to hurry no big deal to me I have so many saws But it may concern some people.
If you want a saw to run right and tite just send it to Kevin. Mine are flawless, and they get used like I mean it. EDIT: At least around here, I know that there are other good quality people out there too.
No idea who that is either. What I can say is there are currently A LOT of rip off artists out there in the ported chainsaw scene. I’m not necessarily saying he is or isn’t. Most of them are peddling their wares on Facebook/Yoo-hoo Toob… It’s important to strongly consider testimonial advice like has been given here about specific saw builders. Use those to make yourself a short list of potential builders. Then pick up the actual phone and have a conversation with the porters to see if it’s a good fit. Ask lots of questions and get some specific about what will and will not be done to your saw. Ask them to send a brief summary of work to be done via text or email so it’s all down in writing. That way there won’t be any “confusion” down the road in 3-6 months when the work actually gets performed. Be prepared to be patient. I have personally owned saws done by Kevin (obviously!), mastermind, Joe Harkness (HMWF llc aka dyno Joe), Treemonkey, and Steve Haling (Stump Shot)… I’ve also run great saws by Canadian Farm Boy, Shaun Carr (SCARR), and a few others I’m not remembering right now. Most of these builders can be found over on ope forum. OPE forum does also have a builder rating section that would be a good first stop in forming a short list.
The word porting has a lot of people confused. In the auto world porting means matching the ports of manifolds to heads and polishing them to reduce turbulence ect. 2 strokes is a port timing mod in addition to everything else. Guy probably bought a porting kit for autos and is just making them look pretty.
There was a guy on AS a few years ago…I saved the pic but it’s long gone now…he used a 1/4” bead of black silicone on the case and set the cylinder down on it. Once squeezed out into the crankcase, it was blocking most of the flow into the transfer ports. Pulled it apart to see why it ran like chit
Thank you, and I consider you a friend as well. I'm not serious enough to send a saw to some random dude. It was more of "just wondering" question. Now, Kevin would be on the top of my list when I'm serious. Dennis' GTG is on my mind, but I've got some Spring boat work to do before I can commit or not.
