We just got a new refrigerator and the SET temperature is a nice digital LED display. Why does it not show the actual temperature besides the fact that they may no longer sell separate refrigerator or freezer thermometers? So I just put it in there and waiting for it to settle. Is this accurate? Research shows the refrigerator section should be under 40 Degs F and Idealy 37 Degs F and the Freezer section should be 0 Degrees F After 45 mins the thermometer settled down to 40 Degs F so I changed the default SET temp of 37 Degs F to 34 Degs F to see if it will come down a bit. Looks like changing the set temp to 34 Degs F after 30 mins brought the refrigerator temp down to 38 Degs F so I will change it to 33 Degs F which is low as it can be set so it will be close to the ideal set temp of 37 Degs F Anyone else do this?
In food service, we had thermometers like the one you have, in fridges and freezers. I never cared if the actual temp matched the set temp, as long as the thermometer inside was cold enough (esp. when the health department was afoot). Our domestic unit has no temp setting, just random numerical values. If the lettuce has ice on it, we adjust it up a notch or two. You can look online for instructions for checking your portable thermometer's accuracy. Sca
They do sell seperate thermometers...look for beer cooler thermometers. Otherwise a wired indoor/outdoor thermometer (copper wire with sensor on the end) can still be found (the Runnings store). Sca
you need to give it more than 30-45 minutes before making judgement ....there are temp swings when compressor on or off...generally the food will be stable
Yes Definitely So After 24 hours I changed the set temp to 35 Degs which seems to keep it into the recommended range under 40 Degs F. So it varies between 32 and 38 Degs F Thanks
Yep. Found a leftover container with ice in it a few months ago. Turned the set point up 1 degree and no problem since. I don't trust any thermometers here any more. Had 2 outside digital thermometers (one Acurite suction mount and one atomic clock with outdoor sensor) hanging right next to each other. They were reading 9 ° different. So i went and bought a new acurite suction cup one just like the one i had. They read 11° different. I believe its actually 20° right now.
Type K thermocouple plugged into a multimeter. Cheap (and old!) dormitory style cube fridge with a 0-9 dia for temp settings. As mentioned before, if you are measuring the temp of food inside the fridge, the readings will be much more representative of desired operation.
