I been using cedars and fat wood cut from my property but for 2 bucks a box if these work decent I'm good for awhile. Got 6 boxes for the price of 1
Used them but if you saw enough wood and got plenty of noodles and some old candles around, they can be pretty cheap(er). The softer the wood the better.
Interesting for that price you didn't get hurt... You'll have to report back on how they were... It says 12 minutes....
Oh snap, could have got me good on that one. (thank God for well mannered gents here) I will confess I was reading the post on my Iphone when better half was getting groceries, when I first looked at the photo.
I use the safelights also but I cut each square in half so I end up with 48 per box....I have a small stove so alot of relights, works great for me for cheap money...
We've been using fat wood. Here's a link to a video Click the video link on the lower left side of the page. Looks interesting. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=8&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiHuum9v-HSAhXMdSYKHVpEDwgQuAIINjAH&url=http://www.homedepot.com/p/Diamond-Strike-A-Fire-48-Count-4878911025/207113544?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-207210347-_-207113544-_-N&usg=AFQjCNFGD6wULx7PzbsZRKsyodicALz7QA&sig2=hR-LNf5_8kT7dsrIbt_j7g
Menards description doesn't recommend them for wood stoves. Box also sports a california prop 65 cancer warning label.
I made 3 dozen firestarters yesterday using 3 cardboard egg cartons, dryer lint and melted wax. I have found they work great. Waiting for wax to melt in a double boiler is the most time consuming part of the process.
I just had to relight my stove for the first time in about 8-10 weeks a minute ago. 3 pieces of balled up paper, then some thin cardboard and toss a few construction scraps which include some really thin cuts and a few splits on top of it. (I would skip the paper if I had reverse draft and just use the wood and light it with a torch.) I dont see a need for buying something when I always have what I need in the recycling barrel in the kitchen.
I've used those, they kinda suck. A lot of times they would ignite like a match and go out instantly. Many end up being duds that dont even ignite. I'd just set them in the stove and hit them with a lighter.
Yup, I've tried them and really like them. They used to go on sale for a buck a box, but I haven't seen them that low for a couple years now. Every time I'm at menards, I check on them. I'll bust one in half and light it with a match.
If this post would have originated in Cali it would have a prop 65 warning !!!! I was looking at a truck equipers website the other day and there was prop 65 warnings on their listed new truck bodies !!!
