It was a cold wet day here in Southside; currently 47F/8C. I have had a fire of tulip poplar burning all day. It may be wet and cold outside but it is nice and warm and cozy inside. I won't be able to do any veggie planting, the gardens are completely sodden; I would sink up over the top of my boots for sure. I was rebuilding the fence in the little valley but it I had sowed my green beans the seeds would have probably rotted in the cold wet soil. The rain is still coming down. If you are in this mess, stay warm and dry if you can.

We're not too southern, but more southern than the AK folks and the winter rains have been relentless. Still burning, stove is running right now. Usually we burn well into June.

Cannot speak for any Southerners but it has been quite mild here (RI) and I am still burning. In fact, I am kind of enjoying running the stove in a completely different way than I normally do; I am starting relatively small fires (1/3 firebox) but burning them hard and hot (Easy Boys!) until the flue temp. exceeds 700 F, then damping the stove way down, the chimney damper nearly closed and letting it 'coast'. I have a black firebox but the stove is still running efficiently, combustor temps. above 1,000 F with flue temps below 300F and the stove just sort of loping along.... enough to keep the house warm without driving us out from too much heat. I think what is allowing this is the relatively small splits I am using this year; they catch and engage much more easily than large splits. Not great for those zero F overnights but great for shoulder season in southern New England.

Another cold day here; this bloody rain just won't quit. Burned all day today as well. Something hit the roof a minute ago; I am guessing part of a dead limb but tomorrow will be the time to investigate.

It is a bit warmer today; still chilly though. I have a fire in the stove to keep the damp and chill away. Lots of rain here, 8 in/20 cm at last count. Hopefully it will move out this afternoon. We needed some rain, not a flood.

We're still being overnighters here in central PA. Usually have to do so until mid-May. I love the fires but I'm also ready for a seasonal break....lol

We still have some fires going except none today. But we'll keep wood handy for another month here.

It was funny with the GTG over the weekend as we had a small fire Friday night and about roasted some folks out of the house. One fellow, My IS heats my home got up and opened the door once then got up again later to open it again. We had a big laugh out of that one.

Virginia is not in the "South".

That said; I'm burning on an "as needed" basis now.

Well, it was part of the Confederacy. Danville, Virginia is known as the last Capitol of the Confederacy.

The fall of Fort Fisher was more or less the end of the war for the South.

    So you missed the deluge?

I have burned for the last three days; I am hoping the sun is shinning when I wake up tomorrow.

And no, I don't have any concern about who, what, when, where, or how close, the worst few years in OUR country's history ended.
    Nuff said.
It's the future of our country which DOES concern me.
    Again, Nuff said.
