Anyone involved in 4-H? This includes past or present. We are now planning the 2015 season for the kids.
I have a son (14 yr old) that is involved with horses, market hogs and shooting sports (rifle and pistol). This will make quite a busy schedule but is well worth it. He has been to the Ohio State Fair twice with his pistol achievements. Looking forward to another good year!

That's cool, I didn't realize there were shooting sports in 4-H, that would have been fun to get in to!

I started when I was 8, my older cousins convinced me to lie about my age so I could get in (this was before Cloverbuds) and we told my parents that 8 year olds were allowed to join and forged the paperwork. I took 2nd place in Fishing for Beginners lol. Then I moved on to obedience training with my golden retriever puppy as soon as I was "legal", I won the county fair every year and went to the Ohio State Fair for like 6 years in a row with him, and won first place there once.

By the time I was in High School we had moved to a mini-farm and I switched to market hogs and market chickens. My parents fronted the money for me the first year to buy the hogs, chickens, and feed, and after that it was up to me to use my profits from selling them to pay him back and buy everything for the next year. After 4 years of doing this, I had enough to pay for my first quarter of college!

Hopefully one day I'll have the space to do the same for my kids, it's a great teaching tool about money, taking care of things, as well as seeing where our food comes from.

I was in 4H growing up, did about every project I could. Now my daughter is in 4H and is about the same way. She really likes poultry and horse. Last year she got reserve champion for one of her roosters

Before raising kids my wife and I raised a few guide dog puppies which was a 4-H related activity. Although it was 4-H in name only it was a rewarding activity.

We had our advisor meeting tonight to plan for the new season. Our club offers Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Shotgun and other interests.
Being a rural County, we hope to attract some new youth this year!

11 Year Vet, market hogs and Registered Suffolk sheep. I have a whole lotta purple ribbons still not to mention some great memories. Unfortunately I don't have the space to give my sons the same experience I had. This county's 4-H program really isn't as robust as mine was growing up, especially in the Ag fields.
