Found a hardy stove. Going to used it for the shop what do u used from keeping it from freezing I just going to used it on the week end. Thanks.
Nobody here is answering your question so I am going to take a stab in the dark and say yes to antifreeze if you have a closed loop system but I don't really know....Maybe someone else will speak up....Best of luck....
Enough anti freeze for an OWB is not cheap and doesn't last forever. Also if you have a leak you will need to drain and refill the boiler... Might be easier and cheaper to keep the boiler and shop at a lower temp during the week... Depending on the size of your shop by the time you get everything up to temp the weekend could be over.
yeah, enough antifreeze is going to be pricey. it also doesnt trasfer heat quite as well as just water so you will loose some efficiency. hardy are very hungry for wood so loss of heat transfer due to glycol will be the least of your worries. running the circ full time all week will help keep things from freezing. if you are heating the slab it will take a long time to get it warm if jsut firing on the weekend. if not, you would have better results with a big woodstove in the shop i imagine. my boiler is in a room in the barn and i will fire up the woodstove if i am working on something that i cannot bring into boiler room. also, advise not to spend much money on that boiler.
50/50 is "The norm " here glycol cheaper than replacing frozen , busted pipes, especially if you have in-floor heating. What's your location? Find you record low temps, & mix glycol accordingly.
