Went out this morning to my new secret cutting spot. Was looking for more red oak.... no oak, but ended up coming across more Osage orange! Also filled the bed of my truck with a load of ash rounds. [IMG]

I’ve never burned it either. Just came across this load and another about the same size a few weeks ago.

Very cool, I'm not even sure I've seen one of these in my area.

Nice score man. That stuff is kind of sporadic here, don't come across it often.

I'm still waiting for this one to break or fall over...would be a shame to cut a perfectly good one.

It’s rare here. I only know of a few. I’ve thought about planting a few.

Awesome. I have a connection with some serious Osage but mangled branches and thorns that has been siting there for 8 years. More than 15 old trees all piled up, multiple
Chords. The stuff is still solid as a rock. I love this stuff. Only problem is I can’t get my buddies to help. Too heavy and eats up saws. Guess I need new buddies. Any takers?

Good luck with that! Stuff is strong. It rarely falls over and if it does break it will just keep growing that direction. It tends to grow every direction but straight but it never rots that’s why we use it for fence post here.

MoJim used to say, "If you're cutting Osage Orange for a living, you're working for short wages!!!" Excellent firewood but a pain to process.

I took this one down tonight. Gonna make some good splits. I really don’t find it that hard to process. It splits nice and straight the worst part is it will grow in every direction but up. Around here we just call it hedge. :D 284F4117-EB1A-4AC8-AF77-3D311167AA4C.jpeg FAF6971E-58AD-4607-8B21-284B37E81040.jpeg 854DE7A0-D182-4BB4-A51A-1CCCC1245D5C.jpeg E1B450C1-BBFF-447B-BE92-9A592EFE189E.jpeg This was a lil more difficult than expected. Two trunks twisted and I wanted to save the small one to cut another day and it was growing off the complete opposite direction. 4D91D420-71E7-42F3-86A0-D93971640FD2.jpeg EB28F852-C682-48B8-A56C-B1E0F5D5E9ED.jpeg

Do you have a lot in the area? It's not common here, but some one dumped some at the city dump a few years ago. I was dumbfounded when I realized what it was a a year later in my wood stacks.
