    Still learning! I apologize in advance! I have come across this wood (pictured, all cut in rounds waiting for my pickup. Picture is a little blurry I can get a better one tomorrow if needed. Again thank you so much!

    Fear not Steve Dixon , we're all still learning something. I came here years back with a pretty good background in wood heat & still learn new things all the time. Wood ID's are always fun, but yes, pics of the end grain & center if you can split one is really helpful. Going by the bark & not much for size reference makes a proper ID difficult. Glad to have ya here!

    Firewood...lol...bark looks kinda like one of the hickories to me, just send it down here to GA, you won't have to worry with it...:D

    No apology necessary! We are never too old too learn as amateur cutter put it, whether we are 5 or 75. I hope i learn something about wood the day i die!
    Ive learned a lot since i joined the same time you did. Lots of know how and humor on here.
    IMO it looks like hickory, but end pics and split pics say a lot as well.

    I’m terrible at wood id but my guess would be a hickory of some sorts. Great wood. Hope you have hydraulics :)

    hickory. How old are the rounds?
    It may be tough to hand split that seasoned. Fresh cut is easier IME. Once the ends start to check (crack) it becomes more difficult. I hand split all my firewood.

    About a year maybe more. I split one in the center and it shows 45% moisture
