Finally caved and bought this saw off C-list yesterday, been wanting to see how the 245sa will compare to my Mac 7-10a, this Dayton labeled Poulan 245sa looks like it couldn't have been used but a couple times if that. (sellers pic)
I was tempted by that one last time I was in the area. It was surprising how long the ad stayed up, given its condition.
I had actually contacted the seller over a month ago, I just didn't feel I needed it, still don't really, but after selling a very nice one several years ago I kinda felt the "need"?, it is a nice example though and I'm glad I bought it.....
Heh, I contacted him a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, thinking I could pick it up when I was in town for the holiday. He said only one other person had been in touch about it at that point. I guess we know who that was.
Yesterday before going to get it, he said he was getting e-mails from out of state wanting him to ship it, he told me that he just too lazy to want to!....lol
The Poulan 245 is 74cc reed valve. The Mac 7-10 is 70.5cc piston ported. I think that Dayton will surprise you. Nice looking saw by the way.
That reed valve should make a bit more power than a piston port motor, even without the displacement advantage.
That's a pretty one, I have the green version that is almost that nice. A buddy of mine has a Dayton just like yours and told me it was his only saw the first 3 years he had his firewood business.
Had a chance today to play with this new toy, went through the carb, new fuel lines and filter, added a bumper spike and the bar and chain that I kept after selling my first nice Dayton 245A, surprised I still kept the B/C after all this time, glad I did, it's a great runner now!.....
