Saw this today in the stire. About half the price of the Husqvarna oil. I get nervous using cheap stuff. Comes in 30 and 40 WT. I didn't know there was andiffa diff. Anyone use it?
That's good oil, haven't seen it around in a while here. What store us that in? Decent price on it for a case.
Local chain of home centers sells that stuff for about $11 a gallon. I have not tried it but would certainly do so if the price was right. Still can't beat the local TSC at $6 a gallon though. I used to buy the Stihl bar oil at big $$$ and found that it makes no difference at all.
I use that stuff, it works great. My dealer recommended it and he charges under $10 a gallon for it. He claims there's only two manufacturers of bar oil, and then it gets packaged by whoever with their brand names on it. Whether this is entirely true or not, I do not know, but the biggest rookie mistake I've made with bar oil is buying a gallon of Stihl from another dealer for almost $20 not knowing any better. Fool me once!
I usually buy 'name brand' oil. I do not know if it 'works' any better for my saws than any other oil. Trick is to catch a deal on it. I bought two gallon of the Husky stuff at last year's Paul Bunyan Show for $8/gal, no tax. I have not opened the second gallon yet. I am guessing that my bar oil tab using 'the good stuff' is about $2.00/month depending upon how much trigger time I put in. It could be as low as .75 cents a month, I guess...not really sweating it. That said....$20/gal is robbery.
no kidding! Come to think of it, this was after a huge wind storm a couple years back. The store didn't even have any power because of the storm. it was running on a generator that powered two drop lights in the show room and by the register. The home depot near my house was wiped out of bar oil, and one of the workers laughed when I asked if they had any. By the time I got across town to that dealer who charged nearly $20 for the gallon of Stihl oil I remember thinking screw it....not leaving without it.
Hey maine mtn man Itaska bar oil is supposed to be made by Spectrum oil co they also make save a chain bar oil sold in a lot of hardware stores Spectrum makes the brown colored oil and they used to make a lot of the name brand oils citgo also makes bar oil if you can find a dealer who handles it The spectrum oil I sell at my shop is 9.50 gal another brand is EFCO branded most dealers sell for 10.00 its the red colored oil multi vis all season it works great Stihl oil was made by spectrum same stuff expensive orange and white bottle Stihl dealers around here are 16.00-18.00 gal Echo oil is another good oil hope this helps you JB
I mostly use this for the last few years...when on sale it is $4.99 per gallon at Menards...occasionally can get it for $4.50 per gallon. CAM2 Works great in the winter...on the thin side when used in the summer...but for the price, meh, works just fine. Has anyone ever found a "bad" bar oil? Like it actually caused problems that don't occur otherwise?
Bar oil is one thing I'm not picky about. Whatever is cheap or convenient is what I use. County Line, Supertech, Ace Hardware brand, Husqvarna, whatever. Maybe if I cut in extreme temperatures I'd pay attention to winter/summer oil.
Here's a list of manufacturer's and their brand names. It's an old list so not sure it's still accurate ...
