Arthritis from a lifetime of ankle sprains finally destroyed my joint. Today I went to the OR for definitive treatment - ankle fusion. So far, so good. Off work, etc. for a couple months but should be much better by Spring.

Not liking. I hope you heal quickly. My sister had ankle joint replacement surgery a couple years ago. She battled a trashed ankle from a dog tripping her in her 30's. Shes 70 now. It was fusion or replacement. She chose replacement.

Oof. I've got the same problem, and fusion is looming over my head like a black cloud. For now I'm just wearing a brace to immobilize the joint and watching my diet, staying away from foods that cause inflammation.

    Ouch.

    Heal quickly.

If you can kneel with that leg, look in to a knee walker. It's like a scooter. It'll give you back some mobility as the ankle heals.

When Mrs MikeInMa broke an ankle, we were able to rent one for a couple of months. $'s well spent.

Hope it heals well. Lay low and take it easy.

Do they have ankle replacements? Seems every other joint in the body can be replaced.

:thumbs:Thanks for all the well wishes. I need them, especially for the next couple days.
:pain:Ankle joint splint vs. replacement vs. fusion is a highly individualized choice. Thankfully, my Ortho surgeons are awesome. With my anatomy and my arthritis, it was clear that fusion was the best choice for me. On the other hand, my brother got an ankle replacement this summer and loves it.
:quad:For mobility I have crutches, walker, iWALK peg leg, and a knee scooter from prior surgery. Good-to-go there.

Of course you’re also going to need a new tractor ;)

I hope it’s not too uncomfortable and that you’re back on your feet before the Spring muddy season is over.

    Oof, no.

Most of the men in my family have had arthritis problems.
    So far, none for me.
Hoping I got the rare live to 98 genes.

I think I may have gotten past the "hurts like f@#&" stage of recovery and have now moved on to the "incredibly annoying" stage. Next big milestone will be bandage and stitch removal in 2 weeks. Thankfully, I have Bruce to keep me company. He's been in my lap nearly continuously post-op
