OK boys and girls… the 1997-dated analog board in my St Croix Pepin started acting up last season. I can't shut off the stove without the combustion fan stopping with a full burn pot of pellets smoldering. And if the stove runs out of fuel the fan continues to run even after the fire goes out. First question… is the board defective? I replaced the POF switch last season… no change in operation. Second question... Does anyone know of someone that can repair this board? I'm going to take the board into my dealer and ask the guys at the parts and repair desk. Try to get an idea of what they have come across in the last 20 years of selling these stoves. I may try to ask a computer guy here in town… he's fixed some non-computer stuff for me in the past (a 14 volt Milwaukee battery charger for one) so he's not adverse to working out of his comfort z.4one. I ask these questions because I'm trying to avoid paying $303.00 (less a discount) for a new digital board. I'm an analog guy in a digital world….
kroos....this guy is in the next town over from me. I order gaskets from him but I can't speak of the board repair but seems like good people. Maybe you can shoot him an email to check and see if he would be able to do it. http://pelletblowers.com/bbandp/pro...id/54/osCsid/a9cda308a4a950f1881d27a651b402f3
Krooser, here's 3 places I came across that claim they do pellet stove control bd. repair. The first 2 may be the same guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pellet-Stove-Control-Board-Repair-Service-/190799433103 http://pelletblowers.com/bbandp/product_info.php/products_id/54 http://www.api-assembled.com/support/pellet stove repair.htm
Thanks guys… I'll check 'em out. I stopped at my dealer today… retail on the new board is $393.00….OUCH!!! I could buy it then freeze this winter looking at my cold stove sitting in my living room without any pellets. You "Hormone" guys would have been drooling today… the dealer had 15 new stoves fresh off the truck. They were taking them out of the boxes and putting them on the carts they use to move them around. They pre-burn every stove they sell then re-box 'em so they are ready to go when sold. When you walk into the set-up shop you may see seven or eight units going at the same time.
Well I paid a visit to my local PC repair shop to ask if they could repair my St Croix board. Nope… the guy that used to fix stuff like that has left. They did give me the name of another shop 27 miles away that might take a look. Instead I thought I'd try to clean the on/off switch with some tuner cleaner… no luck as my can has dried up and I couldn't find any local source for a replacement. The local Radio Shack disappeared this past summer. So I got out a can of carb cleaner… it's worth a try. I cleaned up the switch pretty good… got lots of black soot/dust out of it. Doing a test burn right now… I'll know soon enough if I did any good.
Might install an on/off switch for the auger… that would allow me to kill the fire if I had to without waiting to run out of fuel… comprende senor? Adios muchacho...
A newbie with a couple of tips. My ST Croix is only about 10 years old. Have you tried a hot reset. Turn it off, then unplug, then plug back in? Also mine has a reset button on the inside left portion. I say try the hot reset because I had a auger issue cleaned it out, started stove it would not shut off, kept feeding. I did a hot reset and that did the job. FWIW. Good luck!!
I can try that… I don't have a reset button and my stove has the old analog board but it's worth a try. Thanks.
