An empty truck is a plus when you score wood by accident.

I was on my way to the store (luckily) before coming home tonight when i drive by this. I get FHC whiplash, turn around and park to check it out. Fresh cut curbside, no sign. I knocked on two doors, no answer so its a free for all. The truck was empty (almost). Nothing i hate more than finding wood and truck bed is full. Loaded all the manageable chunks and left the rest. Started to rain just as i finished. Wood was heavy and had BO. I think its red elm which goes against my policy of not taking elm. Urban tree as well, extra knots. Ill buck a couple tomorrow morning to see how it splits by hand. IMG_0401.JPG
didnt feel like unloading wet wood in the rain.

Is Elm ever used for lumber or tables? That dark center part looks kind of nice.

It wasnt the most pleasant smell Ctwoodtick, pungent fresh cut green wood. Ill know later if this was a good score or not. If i didnt have to go to Home Depot, i wouldnt of found it, empty truck, i had time. Thought about going back and cutting ,but its a real busy street. Plus i have the HH.

I cant say for sure Reloader I think its problematic to checking. I imagine it could be though. You are right it is attractive wood. Good question to post in the "sawmill" section.

Looks like a curbside tree. Stump right by the big log? Too bad you couldn't noodle that big one.

Yes, curbside it was. Very busy in town road, fairly close to an intersection. If it was a rural area, id take chain saw and grab the rest. It was still there this afternoon when i drove by. If it wasnt elm, id consider going back, but i have my HH for good wood. This was a bonus!
