So I finally decided the plan is to split the rest of the rounds and stack them in preparation to use them in Winter 25-26. However, after working up a lather just mowing the brush and moving the wood splitter from the other end of the pile I decided it’s just too hot and muggy to split wood. Will try to get after it this evening when it’s a bit cooler. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I did manage to get some split after I mowed the dandelions I call a lawn. Having a riding mower is a plus.
I hear you on the heat. Low 90's and took me all day to cut and move this load to the backyard. Okay, there is still 3 in the driveway that need a few cuts and moved. At least the lawn tractor started right up after putting a battery in it.
I know exactly what you speak of! I have never felt this sluggish and unmotivated when it comes to completing work around my place as I do this year. It is really an effort to get out there and get started. So far this year, I have CSS 2 cord + mostly ash and hand split at that. But, I'll do as much as I can before noon as there is partial shade. Some days it's only an hour's worth of work and other days I'll manage to get 4 hours in. In addition, I know it's silly but I will hand carry from the processing area to where the "permanent" stacks are....instead of loading the mini truck and hauling it over there. I'm trying to lose some weight in the process..... I have also waited until the evenings to process but that was earlier in the year when the mosquitos were not as bad. Now, all that would happen is blood donation!
I find myself taking more breaks / working in shorter bursts. The choices here in the Summer are work in the hot sun or drench oneself in DEET so you're not feeding the mosquitoes later in the day.
I've been trying to acclimate. It came hard and fast this year. Now remembering my disdain for moist air after the repreve last summer.
I roofed my chicken run saturday/ sunday. I got to the point I wanted to Saturday and stopped. I didn't seem to mind the heat and humidity. However on Sunday I made the mistake of taking a short break right before I was done. Temps hit me like a sledgehamner. I finished up and was done doing anything for the day. I was only out for about 4 hours. I never was one to mind the heat. This year is different.
Ive never fared well in the heat. Don't know how I managed to cut that cherry last week as it was in the 90's. It wasn't easy. I try to firewood in the shade when possible. Yesterday I had to split in full sun (the wood was getting stacked in that spot) and when I finished over an hour later I had enough.
Yeah, I hear you. I hate working in the heat and humidity. I had to saw up a Norway maple leader that broke off last Thursday. I didn't want that wood, as I wanted the tree to stay. There's some tree left, so we'll see how it does. Tonight, I have to change the oil on my truck. Uggg
Oil changed. That's done at least. It wasn't so bad out tonight. Now after today, it's only going to get hotter and more humid, so that was my motivation. Do it now before it gets worse.
I mean, it'll be firewood, but it was a nice yard tree that provides (d ) shade. The pups love sitting under the shade of it. There's still a bit left, but it will definitely be a lot less shade. If I want to get firewood, I can just go out and get it.
I don't like it as much this year. Our high is 94°, get off work this week at 6PM, work from about 7-9, with fan going, haven't even set up the lights. When I'm on nights, work from about 7:30AM till noon...I'm done.
My brother in law used to do that morning work after night shift but I always had to get a nap first after I got off work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These past 2-3 weeks have been ruthlessly humid and hot here. My daughter and I have been getting all outside work. Most with no shade. Starting bringing a 24” fan to work. Thinking of getting a pop up canopy to set the cut station under. (Residential Construction jobs)
