I've been on the search for a new air compressor for my small garage for quite some time now but have been disgusted on the low-quality-china-brand name-units out there. I've spoken with a few salesman and it seems if you want quality, you basically have to buy giant unit - 80+ gallons. If I had a real shop, I would be interested in a large monster in the 2k+ price range. But in my case, I'm pressed on room and would "like" it to have wheels so a smaller unit is in order - but I would settle for a stationary device. Does anyone know of a 120v or 220v 20-60gal QUALITY (USA made pump, cast iron cylinders, USA motor) air compressors? Craftsman used to make these little guys way back when that fit the bill quite well. I see them on Craigslist, but I would much prefer a new compressor. I've looked at Quincy, Ingersoll-Rand, Black&Decker, Atlas, Stanley, Central Pneumatic, and more brands on aircompressorsdirect.com and have had no luck. Any suggestions?
Pricey, but it hits all your boxes. US made. Cast iron. Oil lubed. Wheels. For 70 bucks more you can get the 60 gallon model though. https://www.menards.com/main/tools-...c-vertical-air-compressor/p-1444439608275.htm
"...with USA & Global parts." I'd wager the tank is US made, but have severe doubts about the motor and pump. Heck of a price though. How much air do you use, Born? Just for some air tools and tires and stuff? Do you do any painting or the like? Grinding? What is budget? Saylor Beall, Qunicy and Jenny compressors come to mind. Saylor will have US motor, tank and Pump ($$$), Jenny will have US made pump, unsure about the motors, Quincy seems to have both domestic and import options. Speedaire used to make a decent unit...not sure nowadays.
I would look on CL for a Champion, Saylor Beall, IR, Quincy- pumps are rebuild-able but an old tank might need to be replaced.
Central pneumatic is harbor freight 'china made'. It's probably one of the better compressors you listed. The salesman seem to have sold you the wrong info. Lots of good small compressors out there. You need to define air needs, and go from there.
Ahh ha - Saylor Beall and Jenny both have units that are actually all domestic. Even the smaller Quincy's have foreign pumps and motors. With "most" brands these days, it isn't until you move into the larger units that they become high quality. My demand is not significant. Again small home garage that is pressed for space. Already found a spot to squeeze in a Fisher though I use a Die grinder alot, 1/2" Impact gun, Air Grease gun, and a paint gun. The most air consuming item is the paint gun but I rarely paint so I can settle for probably the 5-6cfm range. I've thought about adding a secondary air storage tank (w/ an auto condensate drain) up in the attic for more air storage. Anyways, it looks as if I'm going to be stuck getting a smaller unit. The IR Garage Mate seems to fit the bill fairly well other than the fact that the drain isn't completely on the bottom of the tank so you have to lean it over to drain water out
How is it doing, And the drain may have a dip tube attached ..... My garage compressor just bit it too, i had the two stage small vertaical dewalt.... love the high pressure but volume was still an issue. Went with a quincy QT-54
The garage mate is a very nice unit. I am very pleased. Best part is, I can roll it up into the house from the garage if I really need to. Built very well and "industrial" quality. Hasn't ran out of air during a job yet. That being said, I dont paint cars
Had 175 in repair shop I worked in. It's nice when you need it. We kept it regulated down to around 140 at the couplers. That looks to be a nice unit. Pull a fitting and shine a light down in tank to make sure there's no excess corrosion. Exploding air tanks are no joke! Looks like a 7-1/2 hp motor. Most likely continuous duty cycle. That's a good mark of a heavy duty compressor. Centrifugal unloader. I assume there is a smaller jug on the backside of the large one...two stage.
Close, it's a 5 hp, tank looks like new inside. it is a 2 stage continuous duty, unloader and a cooler. I think that the cooler is a boon for tank life. When I drain the tank I get a few drops of water, nothing like my old one. My old 30 gal. I would get a cup or more.
I wouldn't recommend anything new...they are mostly all import...unless you go to a very expencive industrial grade... I picked up an IR type 30 for 600. All it needed was a capacitor
Picked up from Northern Tool this weekend, with military discount 10% and on sale for $469. Picked up the start up kit, oil and filters, for a full 5 year warranty. Been looking awhile and these look better than most in this price range. Hope it holds up for the next 20-30 years.
Installed a Northern Tool 3h.p. Compressor about a month ago . Couldn’t be happier with the service I recieved ,or the compressor .
