We had breakfast in Telegraph Cove yesterday morning and then came home to watch the Blue Jays play. Around the 7th inning, campinspecter said "why don't we pack up the r-pod and camp at Telegraph Cove for the night. I said "sure!" We abandoned the Blue Jays in the 11th inning and got ready to leave.

Telegraph Cove was the place that campinspecter spent the first years of his life. It was a sawmill town then and looked like this.

When we arrived, the sun was out and it was warm. After dinner at the Seahorse cafe, we went for a walk and I forgot my camera. So I went back and took some pictures later.

What is wrong with this picture? It is 6:30 PM on a summer's day and two things could be happening that are not. I shouldn't be able to see anything because of fog or the westerly should be blowing 35 kts and the waves pounding the beach. Instead, two paddle boards are making their way into the beach on glass calm water. It has been a very unusual summer.

I tried taking a panoramic photo with my camera. I have a lot to learn.

    100_4212.JPG

Got back to the campsite to everyone waiting for me.

    100_4214.JPG

When we got up the next morning, the fog had arrived.

I tried another panoramic picture of the cove.

We went for a walk down the boardwalk to what I consider the downtown of the cove. At the end is the Whale Museum. Full size skeletons of whales and lots of information for anyone interested in whales.

fishingpol you are going to love the door on this place. I don't think it is finished yet but it has been rescued from somewhere.

    100_4222.JPG

As we were standing at the end of the dock, the whale watching tour boat headed out into the fog.

A kayak tour boat headed out as well. I think to pick up someone as he came back in with a couple more boats on board.

We made our way back up along the board walk and the fog had lifted a bit. I thought I would share main street Telegraph Cove with you.

The original building in this spot was a fish saltery and then a lumber storage area for the mill. It was rebuilt and now is a pub and restaurant.

campinspecter's brother helped build this house for his new bride in the 60s. Now of course it is a guesthouse.

I just love the sign built by this resort.

Looking down on the cove. It is still pretty foggy.

    100_4238.JPG

There is quite the interest in kayaking in this area and this is one of the companies providing tours.

    100_4239.JPG

I was waiting and hoping to get a picture of the flotilla heading out but I ran out of time. Here a few are heading out.

    100_4242.JPG

Got back to the campground and the fog was lifting. By the time we pulled out of our spot, the fog over "town" was gone.

I can't forget a picture of the Seahorse Cafe. This was taken in August when the sun was full out.

I enjoy trying to find something of interest for everyone. Not a lot of people from FHC get to our area. Although looking at licence plates is a lesson in geography. California, Alberta, Manitoba, Utah and the couple next door to us were from Holland. I don't think he got it when I said that was a long drive. They were in a rental RV.

Great pictures of a beautiful area! I'd be curious of the history of the door. The raised panels are pretty uneven like they were hand planed.

I really like the different style cottages, our favorite types of houses.

The first and oldest building were built by Japanese residents. They operated a fish saltery and had a sawmill to build wooden boxes to ship the salted fish. The later homes were built for the sawmill that operated there. The present owner of the resort has had to rebuilt some of the houses and has made sure the style fits right in with the originals.

The little shops and cafe near the museum at the end are just really cool to see. The integrity has been kept amazingly. Woodwidow, we stayed at the house that sits on the hill overlooking the entire cove. The white one that you first see when driving down the landing. This made the whole trip worth it as it was charming and easy going. The ease of walking around every day and when we were not fishing was a great way to recharge.
