We do have a big cold front moving in and some will see single digit temperatures or lower. However, for most of the folks on this forum, it will be cold but not that cold. I sort of shudder when I read that a cold front is coming at this time of the year and people are digging out their best wood. Why not save that until it is really needed? But of course, some have only oak or locust to burn. Well, I guess you are stuck and we really feel sorry for you having to burn that terrible wood now....
63 here today - it's taking all my willpower to stay stuck inside at work! I want to go play outside!! It will be dark by the time I get home though..
We had 54 yesterday. 52 today with a bit of rain right now but tomorrow promises to be a bit colder for sure with a high of 33 predicted.
The news media & weather channel folks are sensationalizing the first winter storm. Get a lot of folks in a tizzy. It's mid November, might be a bit early for some , but "Winter happens" every year around this time. This cold snap is nothing most havent' experienced before, just a bit earlier than the average. Folks here aren't gonna let the news media invoke fear of the coming cold. Being prepared is a good feeling . eh ? PS : Don't forget to get the outside hoses disconnected & drained. 47° here, overcast
Yes and anything that is in an unheated building get inside now. Today I brought in all the rechargable batteries and a few liquids. Hoses and water lines were taken care of a few weeks ago.
72 deg here today Dennis, calling for 42 high tomorrow, that will be a noticeable change but not as bad as some will see.
Our Best wood Backwoods Savage is sometimes the only wood up here. I have received grapple loads of tree length that was 90% oak, kinda sucked cuz I had to dry it for a few years but it's all we get sometimes.
its great how everyone on here looks out for everyone else with friendly reminders like these. Its hard to find people like that in everyday life sometimes.
C'mon cold front! It was in the mid- 60's F here today. And here I sit with a new woodstove and snowblower.... this is worse than being seven years old two days before Christmas I tells' ya'. Brian
It was is the mid 60's here today and tomorrow . I was at a customers house today taking her tree limb off her front lawn. We have to deal with whatever Mother Nature throws at us. We are expecting some kind of winter mix on Sunday which I don't like. Give me snow but ice yucky and dangerous . Be safe folks and make sure you have batteries for your flashlight. Candles. Gas for your generators.
The news said some places in the southwest will see a temperature swing from close to 80º to single digits inside of 24-36 hours!
This is true. will711, jtakeman, DexterDay, and the rest of the pellet heads always remind each other to not forget to have a cold beer too. And not forget to leave their beer outside too long where it could possible freeze. Now that is looking out for one another.
Thanks Gas! Always looking out for one another. That's what it's about! Great Post Dennis! Tomorrow will be a little colder than today, but tomorrow night is the start of some cold weather. I'm ready.. I hope other are as well! Get some wood inside or under cover if you are predicting any snow/rain/mix. I know I have a face cord in the basement and a half cord on the back porch (I enclose 30' of the 40' porch every year. Helps from tracking in snow and give the animals a place to stay out of the wind when outside).
I'm lighting up some Ash tonight and a good load at that. It wouldn't be so bad except for the wind outside tonight....
Funny because I got out of the truck to a sweet hint of hickory smoke - GF threw one of my 4yo splits on the stove before I got home, it was on the porch from the cold snap a couple weekends ago Oh well, she knocked the chill off, I try not to condemn the burning of primo wood when it's not needed
