This young rat snake was in my chunk/cull pile about 6' from the splitter while I was standing there running it, tossing a piece on the pile occasionally. 0407201156.jpg 0407201226.jpg

Those snakes just eat mice and other rodents. If they are not poisonous, I don't have an issue with them. Even if they are poisonous, I just don't want then anywhere where my pets, my family, anyone really, or their livestock, etc is.

I just encouraged it to move to a stack of cherry logs away from where I was working.

Awesome! Snakes don't bother me in the least. All it takes is a long stick behind the head and you can pick em up and place in a bucket for relocation. Of course we don't have king cobra's close, that my change my strategy approaching them. We've had so many garter snakes on my property, handling them became pretty easy. Had a couple bigger black snakes too. I'd rather have them around than the darn mice that wreck havoc.

This one was entwined with a rope on my ladder. This was the thread.
    Yikes, that's not a rope!

I hate snacks so bad my heart skipped a couple beats when I opened the thread!!

one of the few things I like about the SD climate is we don’t have many snakes. I run I into a few harmless garter snacks once in awhile and I hate them as well!

Like jrider said nothing should move like that. Fteakes me out even more when you see them in the water! :bug::hair:

If not poisonous, let them be. They do more good than harm.

They really aren't that bad once you are near someone that can handle one and show you how easy it can be. My grandmother had 2 in her garage once. I got them both and re-homed.

Exactly. I've never had a snake eat wiring on cars, OPE, or shred up interiors etc. Mice, do that crap all the time though. Snakes appear to know where to go to the bathroom as well, unlike mice. Yuk!!

If they are non poisonous snakes I let them go but if they are dangerous I kill them.

I’m trying to get my wood processing done before the snakes come out! I just don’t like them but I leave them alone.
