Ms. buZZsaw wanted some compost for the garden. A trip to the dump to get some. I had firewood on the brain. Scrounged some sassafras, cherry and red oak. Lots to pick from but needed room for the dirt.
Someone dumped their old wood first pic. IMG_2541.JPG Some big sassy logs. Biggest ive ever scrounged that i can say. IMG_2543.JPG IMG_2542.JPG

Wish i couldve got this shag log IMG_2544.JPG
Always an impressive operation to watch. The big log pile was around back where the commercial guys dump so nobody bothered me. IMG_2546.JPG
    Got home, unloaded all the dirt, C & S the wood. IMG_2547.JPG IMG_2548.JPG IMG_2549.JPG

Im out of state for a few days and it gives her something to do outside. We just PU some flowers and veggies for the garden.
There is always a lot of wood there. Id like to not have any scores to work and be able to do like Midwinter does and go on a regular basis and grab a little. The guy is cool too. He has even said i could use the saw. I almost did for the shag log but didnt wanna push my luck.
Even though the wood is okay its random length, buried, and/or covered with mud.

Huh, I wish my dump was that overstocked! I go everyday, but there's very little good stuff. I can't get to where the commercial guys dump, it's off limits. That sassafras looks very cool.

    Nice score, Brad.

You need to have a length of chain or strap, to pull some of those logs out of the pile.

Its an obstacle course of logs, rounds, brush there. If it didnt have that big log on it i wouldve rolled it off and bucked. Ill have to ask him again next time im there about using the saw there. Im usually working when i go there so pressed for time.
Sometimes where homeowners dump there's some decent clean wood, but its pot luck and timing is everything.

Our dump area had some reasonable stuff, but they screwed it up. I would take dump trailer there heaped with limbs and stumps and grab a few random chunks, not much. This year I pulled in and no dump trailers, nothing over 6 inches, no commercial etc. have to take everything to another place 30 plus minutes away and pay $35 per ton. Digging a big hole this summer in the woods.....and burying it all.

LOVE me some sassy.............The smell and I think it's the easiest wood I've split by hand. Me and the kids pulled a very small sassafras tree a few weeks back, the root smell is unreal, amazing root beer smell, love it.
