"the wood is VERY expensive, they've already been cut into lengths" *awaits riches* They almost never give a definitive price...
Seems like that's the trend lately. I still see ads for free wood, and sometimes it is hardwood, but a lot are looking to have trees removed and get paid for them.
LOL! And the one I posted requires insurance. “Please work for free as I don’t plan on covering your overhead”. I sometimes watch tree guys work and wonder how they make money between equipment, labor, fueled and insurance costs.
Yep, or let’s say for instance that you have a problem tree that needs to come down. Call the utility company and they come do it for free, while the aspiring tree guy looks on
That horse chestnut my friend just had taken down was $1800. They started at 9a, left by 2. One guy in the lift, then another guy played groundie till he broke out the big saw and cut the base. Then the business owner in the bobcat and I assumed his wife, fed the chipper.
I messaged this person asking if he would do 300 for me to clean up the log, crickets! Although that does look like a pretty nice saw log.
They have to. Company who did a big silver maple very close to mine and my neighbors house and over power lines charged me 4800 and that was in 2013. He told me he pays out 28k a month in various insurances, workers comp, etc…
Might make me a couple bucks next summer as campfire wood for the handful of folks that ask if I have any.
In a similar thought. Every time I mention to my dad that I'm making firewood, he always mentions why not make furniture out of it? The latest example are 3 black birches (~8in dbh) I'll be dropping at my BIL's. Same comment whether it's ash, oak, etc. I always respond that it's more value to me as firewood, keeping the oil furnace quiet.
