I picked up a 2015 stihl catalog today as i find it sometimes easier to read vs computer.

Anyways I dont see the winter bar oil mix. In the catalog. It has all the others. I dont use it myself but I know others do. The dealer where i was today had tons of woodcutter and platinum oil in fact skids of it and seversl gal of the bio oil yet only two gallons of the winter mix
I assumed he didnt sell that much of it until I got home and looked at catalog. Maybe they discontinuing it might worth checking into if you use it maybe stock up

I noticed the dealer had info hanging everywhere really pushing the platinum stuff

The platinum is the same as the OLD orange bottle stuff. Woodcutter is a less expensive blend.

Well the dealer i normally get oil from is close i was there yesterday snd all he had was platinum
Today i went to a different dealer i frequent has more in stock selection i was looking at new saws and as said above he had a couple skids of each

The catalog i have says things are current as of oct 2014 so i am assumeing that if they was discontinuing the orange bottle they would not have put it in the 2015 Catalog

Maybe some dealers are stocking the platinum oil only to make a little more money. The orange is $10.99 and the silver $13.99 innmy area

Here is a pic from the catalog

MM is correct; the current orange bottle is called "Woodcutter" and it's a lower cost (thinner) bar oil and was a new product as of 2 or 3 years ago I believe. It's just a lower cost option than the other Stihl oils. The current silver bottle called "Platinum" is the same bar oil as what used to come in an orange bottle - prior to the Woodcutter.

I don't think there is a notably higher mark-up on the Platinum over the Woodcutter, so I doubt a dealer would push one based on a larger profit margin. I can only speak for my local dealer, but he always has a lot more Platinum than Woodcutter, but that's only because he moves a lot more of the cheaper stuff, so the other tends to stay stocked up on the shelves.
