Somebody near me is selling a Husqvarna 61 with 5 extra chains for 50 bucks. Starts but dies once the throttle is hit. I figure it needs a carburetor adjustment (or a new one all together). Is that a good deal for this saw?

You bet it is a good deal! Have you seen the saw? There were three of them white, gray and orange tops. Within those the white and early gray tops can be problematic in that they use the two piece ignition setup, coils and pickups expensive and hard to find. As of late AM versions are becoming available. The 1991-03 and beyond versions use the same single component coil as the 272XP, including all the orange top versions.

I have three 61s, the later versions share the same case as the 272 and can be converted to 268OP or 272XP CP by simply swaping the top end. There are also a bunch of different Tilly carbs that work fine on them.

Where are you in upstate NY? I am in Rochester if you need any help getting it going!

I live in Whitehall, about 40 minutes north east of Glens Falls. I am trying to get the guy to send me some pictures but he hasn't replied yet, it would be great to get it running considering it would be a step up from my Craftsman. Which all though it has been great it would be nice to have a back up saw other than my other Craftsman.;)

Go get it, I have an orange one I got with a Pioneer P-39 I bought several years ago. Just a word of caution, be careful about providing information on potential purchases as there are those that have no qualms about using that data to buy the saw out from under you.

Whitehall, home of the United States Navy, I know it well! If you need a carb kit, the one you need is DG-5HS/T. when you look at the saw it is important to note the color of the serial number tag, if silver it was made in Tomos Yugoslavia, black tags were mostly were made in Sweden and are the later models.

Pay attention to what Guido Salvage said, there are folks out there that will slide in there and steal your deal!

OBTW, after you get the 61 running, it will no longer be a 'back up saw', lots of torque and a fine uality built saw.

If you strike out, I might sell mine. Need to get rid of a couple of hundred saws.

It's an orange top with a black tag (From what I can tell it's a little blurry). Thanks for the advice again guys, yeah it's probably going to need a carburetor, but we'll see. And if I do I'll go to you Guido, I'm looking into getting a more serious saw so t'is the season.:saw: It comes standard from the guy with a 16 inch bar but I may see about getting an 18 incher for it. I'll probably switch my 20 craftsman over to a secondary saw due to the weight when the fuel and oil tanks are full. I always fill them up at home and it sucks carrying that through the woods by hand.

The 61's are great saws. There is a Minty one by me that I wanted to grab. I can't bring myself to pay what they want.

That's a damm beauty right there. The misses wasn't happy when I said I was going to buy a saw (my third, but I didn't pay for the 20 incher because the guy wanted to throw it away because it wouldn't start, just needed a new carburetor and spark plug) until I told her the price....;)

The one he's selling has a little obvious wear though so not quite as pretty but still nice.

Love the 61 ! Had a faded white top Rancher for a while. No power surprises... Just reliable torque :).
