I guess the expression "Tall as a GA pine" is true. A friend of mine drives a log truck. They are currently cutting a tract on Ft Stewart, south of Savannah. These are slash pines, similar to Long leaf pine, that were tapped for turpentine years ago.

He said he had about 35' overhang pff the back of his trailer. Bet that would make some fine boards.

Why do they leave them so long?

Most all logs down here are cut/hauled tree length, then cut to length at the mill. Some of the big hardwoods are cut to 16-18' lengths and hauled double bunked. Then some like these are probably turned into utility poles.

Beat me to it. I was going to say utility poles.
