A day trip to Cape Cod

I needed a change if scenery, so off to the Cape I went. 60mins to the canal. Another 30 to Hyannis.

Overcast and drizzly at Hyannis harbor.

One of the ferries from Nantucket and/or Martha's Vineyard showed up


I had lunch with a friend and saw him off as he went fishing. I just couldn't work it into my schedule.


I got a growler refilled at Cape Cod Beer, before heading back to the canal.

Back on this side of the canal. The Sagamore Bridge


Somebody going by. Nice dinghy!


Moved along to Buzzard's Bay and the active railroad Bridge.


Looking back to the east is the Bourne bridge

 

One of the canal cruise ships showed up. I took that cruise years ago. Decent take


It played chicken with what I think is some kind of a research ship.

We went north to Portsmouth NH to meet family today. Very bright out and dry. Beautiful weather with a nice breeze.

Mom and Dad lived there for many years , good times and a lot of memories for sure. They were very close to that area.
Had a cottage in Hyannis and then a house in Yarmouthport.
Dad passed away a few years back and Mom stuck it out as long as she could before moving back to Ct. , the house was just too much for her and she just couldn't keep up any more.
Been there every summer since I was young.
Headed back in July just to get away and do nothing for a few days , can't wait.

First picture shows Baxters Restaurant in the top left.
That was Dads favorite place.
They used to stop at McDonalds for me before going there before I was into seafood.
As a kid the best part was throwing french-fries from the deck into the water and seeing the Stripers and Eels come and grab them.

I brought my fishing tackle, but never broke it out. Lots of lines in the water. No sign of any fish.

 

That area is my 2nd happy place. Relaxing

My 1st happy place is the White Mtns of NH.

 

We have timeshare in Hyannis and Brewster. So, we're down to the Cape a few different times a year. My inlaws are interned at the National Cemetery in Bourne.

Several reasons to head in that direction. Getting around wasn't difficult today. Not too much traffic.

Family memories, good ones, are best relived.

 

I had 2 claws and knuckles, with melted butter.

The rest will be for lobster salad tomorrow.

 

No way I could have stopped there. 2 claws and knuckles is just a starter.
You did pick the best part though , especially the knuckles.

 

How far are you from Wareham? Have to go there or should I say used to have to go there a lot pre China virus for work.

I used to live in Buzzards Bay. Used to jog the length of the canal from the train bridge to Sandwich end and back.
The old power plant that used to be oil and was retrofitted to nat gas has supposedly been replaced with a new Nat Gas Plant with a diesel back-up and a wind generator is supposedly going up as well. I'm old enough to remember going down the Cape in the Winter on a Sunday and it was fairly desolate. Most everything closed for the Winter. (pretty much) All the local mom and pop businesses have been replaced with chain corporate businesses found anywhere else in the world.

one of mine is about to get one her degrees in Marine Biology from URI and she used to intern at the Inner Space Center at URI, that act as kinda mission control for that vessel and a couple others while on duty around the world
Got to tour that one a couple years ago.

 

From the website, it appears that the Endeavor is on its way to the gulf of Maine for a research project.

You never know what's going through the canal, above or below the surface.
