High temps around 90* with humidity did not make for ideal working conditions, but that didnt stop a couple of die hard hoarders. Had the pleasure to meet fellow Connecticut hoarder "Dave" Sirchopsalot yesterday. Met up at his place, got a nice tour of his stacks, rounds PA etc. Headed out to the big score he's been working and cut for a few hours. Some nice red oak loaded in his trailer. Dave swinging the Fiskars. I had parked by the sugar maple and we worked that later. His chain holder was rather ingenious. Stopped for pizza, then back to his place to unload. Still a couple trailer fulls of rounds for him to retrieve. All in all a fun day hoarding despite the heat. Luckily mostly in the shade and a breeze blowing. His thread is Good score working FYI: for those not familiar a "get together" or GTG is a common term on here for a gathering of hoarders and the title is a play on those words.
The sun was stoked, If it weren't for the breeze, Our shirts woulda been soaked. We cut for a couple hours, loaded rounds and did some splitting, with copious amounts of bull $#!#!ng. The saws sang, the chips flew axes and mauls whistled through the air. Everything we did, we did with flair. Ideas and wisdom were exchanged, Tactics compared, tools admired, the two of us had fun, And no one cared! Tho we're not a couple of young bucks, We did pretty well for a couple old fck$. And thats the news from this CT sweat together, where the pizza is hot, the men are good looking, and the waitresses above average.
There was a different kind of synergy yesterday. It was a little less focused on getting it all done, and more focused on fellowship, sharing wisdom and ideas, tactics, and MANY stories. I believe (hope) buZZsaw and I have more hoarding activities in the future. There are already ideas brewing. And I look forward to a larger CT FHC GTG sometime this summer. Sirchopsalot
True as thats usually the case when i meet someone for the first time. I have a tendency to tell lots of stories! Most are true or are they?as my initials are BS...BSK to be exact! Annnnd he did the obigatory gift of my homemade felling wedges/kerf keepers that double nicely as door stops. Those CT hoarders (M2theB in Mass too) that have met me know all too well about these, right guys?
I commend you gentlemen for hoarding in this heat. Yesterday I took a trip to the NW Foothills with my boys to take the canoe out for some fishing/swimming. I paddled out about 3/4 mile to the other side of the lake and was just about shot when I dropped the anchor I may have to build one of those Sirchopsalot patented wooden chain holders for myself That's one seriously impressive pile of rounds ready to be split there too.
She took a fancy to him pretty quick. She supervised the operation back at home base. We were both about toast by then, both walking salt licks too. Sca
Prose is not my thing, but it was a neat thing to be with folks a year or two older than me, with as much pepper/chutzpah as Brad had. Gives me hope looking forward. I'm ok to be working toward the old and krusty status, and Brad is a machine to be kept up with. When I started tiring, he was chucking rounds still. Kinda motivated me to push through despite the heat. (5 hours in chilly rain and wind is a different beast altogether!!) But, we were both also "man enough" (for lack of a better term) to admit when we were fatigued. And we need to be mentored, even informally, by those more experienced than ourselves. Brad filled that role for me yesterday; it was nice to listen and learn, something which is an unusual yet nonetheless critical place for me to be. Sca
Congratulations to you two guys! It is great to get together with fellow hoarders occasionally to do a little work and just shoot the breeze some. A cold beverage helps too whether it is hot or cold outside. But most times we will choose to do these GTG when it is a bit cooler. We had a good time this weekend at our place too. The guys got tired in the heat but those big red oak logs got torn up pretty good. We worked late evening and early morning so it wasn't quite so hot but still was hot. A short break in the action.
Backwoods, I wish I had the ability to get out there with yall! Looks like a good time was had by all. I don (yet) mind the heat. Today a few feet of sidewalk came out, landscaping timbers went in, along with soil and seed, and mulch. I think 7 qts of water disappeared today. But I feel good and the job is done!
That is a fancy chain holder there. I just use a little sandwich bag for mine with a paper telling me what the chain is. Nice job you guys and lots of good pics.
I'd be good for a couple get togethers. With three people on the splitter, we've killed a cord an hour. With a couple people hauling and stacking, we can do some real damage. I have 6 ish cord of rounds, 7 by August to be sure. I'd host a GTG here. Otherwise, if there is someone among us in a place of need, certainly count me in. Sca
The chain holder helps keep multiple chains untangled. I carry 5 with me, so I don't stop to sharpen on the job. Feel free to improve on the idea! Sca
