I run premium in all my small engines but it is the only way to get ethanol free where I live. Stihl recommends a minimum of 89 octane with no more than 10% ethanol for my 261cm. If the only way to get ethanol free was regular I would probably use the recommended fuel and use Stabil. I use Stabil in all my small engines as it’s cheap insurance and makes me feel better. I have yet to run into a problem.

I prefer the motomix ... have saws with 100’s of tanks thru them and upon tear-down clean as a whistle albeit some wash on piston which is easily cleaned off before reassembly ... also I can leave the fuel in the tank until the next job without draining / running saw dry ... that being said ... if I’m going thru 2-5 gallons on a large job I’ll run 91 ethanol-free with Stihl ultra oil ... k2 and motul are also excellent oils to use with 91e-free ... where I live independent testing has found fuel with up to 15-20% ethanol drawn from random stations around the area ... Just ain’t worth it to me to take the chance ... your mileage may vary

VP Racing Fuel 110.jpg I Run VP 110 ethanol free in my splitter & chainsaws as well as my snowblowers, Mowers,Blowers & String Trimmers Never any problems & they all run like race cars Super easy to start & keeps the carbs clean . Most of the Fire Depts around here run it in all their small equipment. It's a little pricey but worth the cost

If it works for you great ! I have found that over 93 octane burns too cool in my location and the saws don’t make 100% power ... your mileage may vary!

Saws are designed to run on 87 octane e10. Any more octane and you are wasting $, unless you've modded your saw. I'll choose 87 ethanol free if I can find it, but it's not available around here, so I run 87 e10.
