How does a 359 compare to a 357? What would you value a 357 in great shape? Can you tell I have no idea on used chainsaw prices
The one from Mitch is a good deal. I just traded mine for a 064. They're great firewood saw and was just replaced a little over a year ago.
The 359 is the same basic saw with a different cylinder... It was meant to be the homeowner version of the 357xp. In great shape a 357 -- $350 to $400 around here.
It looks super clean. I wish I knew more about saws and had a bigger budget lol. I'm guessing it would have more power than the 550 but it also weighs 2 pounds more.
The 550 is auto tune where as the 357 is the old screwdriver/owner tuned. There is a difference there. The auto tune guys love it and say its stronger than the none AT versions. I dont know? But many of the homeowner saws you can get 5-10% faster cut times just by doing a muffler modd.
Well it compares more to a 555/562 than the 550. It may be a little heavier but depending on what bar size you want to run it may be better.
What are you looking for Certified? A smaller bucking saw or a limber? The 550XP is a great limber and cartainly useful in small trunks as well. The 357XP trades a good bit of that limbing prowess for some extra power. If you're looking for something to wear a 20" bar full-time, I'd say the 357 is the better choice. Otherwise I still think the 550XP would make a great companion for your MS460. The 357XP is hardly outdated. Discontinued, yes, but it's a smooth runner with good power.
More power? The 357xp.... The 359 as stated above is the same saw, but slightly detuned. Both are not outdated at all. Great saws. At one time, a very sought after saw. Between you, Chvyman, and Jrsdws.... We have a great case of CAD here. Jrsdws bought my 545 and I believe as of tonight, he is the owner of a nice 62 cc saw, as is Mr. Chevy (a couple days ago he bought his)
Do I really have to be looking for something specific cause At this point I really have no idea and just want to try everything out, lol. (Thanks a lot Dex and Mastermech) I used to be happy with one non pro saw then I start hanging out in the chainsaw forum and the next thing I know I can't stop thinking about every saw that's for sale . By the way your synopsis up there didn't help out at all. It sounds like I need the 357 with a 20" bar, the 460 with the 28" bar, and the 550 with a 16" bar now. Oh I can't forget the jonsered with a 12" or 14" bar. I think I may have a problem at this point but I'm not a quitter and will push through this.......
A 357 is a nice small saw. Now its gone my small saw is a ported 046. It may end being a ported 064 depending if I like it more than the 046. I have 390xpw coming and a 660 on the way also. 088 is going to run the mill mostly.
Well it's on it's way to my house....... The price went low enough that I had the cash sitting there and wanted to give it a try. Hopefully got a decent deal on this one. Sold my 450 Husky for $220 last night and only had to pitch in a bit more to get this one. Should be quite the upgrade I'm hoping.
Mitch (Mweba) From a different forum, Not sure of his last name but he had it listed on ebay for a few hours also.
