Finished up a 346xp NE build. Lowered the squish to .017", mild port, muffler mod, zama el-32, tank vent tweak, unlimited coil out of a 2145. Pulls 180 PSI with a used piston/ring and cylinder. Did a test and tune on this saw, and it was 4 stroking at 14,700 rpm at about 1 turn out. Did some noodling with a 16" .325 oregon lpx and it cuts like mad. I know the max rpm is supposed to be 14100-14200 rpms. Being that this build is not extreme and similar to what others do for building.. what are you all running for tached rpms on a modded 346xp?
Being that your saw isn't stock and most likely differs from other modded 346's - what works for one may not work for you. I've seen some tacked out over 15 still 4 stroking.
I ran a 346 a week and half ago that was about 15,500 RPM.. It four stroked hard.. Probably the sickest 50 cc saw I ever ran.. The tune is based on the saw and the conditions.
I've fixed some stock ones oe and ne in the past but finally acquired one for myself to do a mild build. Freaky would be the word for this saw. I think the 2054, 021 and 2141 are going to be benched for limbing and small work.
My 2153 stumpy ported will 4 stroke at 15300 , i run it usually a 14000 - 14300..seems like it runs its healthiest in that neighborhood
I have a couple that will 4 stroke over 15K, but I run them around 14200. A ported 346 is what I use 90% of the time & not just for 'small stuff '...
I ran my ported ones fat for work like 13.8K. But for cookie cutting and only 3 cuts watch out. I seen 084 066 372 rpm's you guys mention for cookie cutting.
Post from 07. My ported 066 The only thing I found with the Poly flywheel is. When you are turning 15k and one of those little brass inserts from the top cover fall in there unnoticed before starting the saw up for some cutting. It makes short order of them fins right quickly.
I know my one woods ported 084 liked 14's for cookie cutting and put a long bar 50+ and richen up no problems. Per new owner. The 375 liked higher rpm then above 066 for cookie cutting.
Besides if one is showing off for max RPMs, its kinda a catch 22. It's nice to have racing rpms for limbing, but if you want to bury the bar into some wood, I'm much more comfortable with a slightly richer mix. I tached it after adjusting in the cut, was slightly for stroking and am running 14,700 four stroking hard out of the cut. FYI: the Stihl EDT-8 is slower than slow response wise. I need to get my old echo back that's on loan.
