Last week we were doing a college tour at UNC Chapel Hill. They have a tulip poplar on campus named "Davie Poplar." Legend is the founder of UNC decided to build the campus around the poplar after eating lunch and taking a siesta under it. Not sure if the legend is true, but it's a cool tree.

Just mentioned this to my daughter, who is a forestry major (obviously loves trees). She said they learned about this tree at UNC in her Vegetation of North America class. Pretty neat.

The Joyce Kilmer memorial forest in Robbinsville, NC has some big Poplars. The Poplars at Mount Vernon are big. One dates back to 1766.
Chapel Hill is a good school. One of the best in God’s country.
