Shot a 5 man limit in an hour this morning. Son got his first jewelry for his collection. 1 bird not pictured...found it on the way out.
Congrats! Geese I find a little tougher than ducks to eat. We grind up the legs and make like a sandwich spread out of it and it is delicious.
I normally loathe these fowl for all the reasons that most do. I have to admit to 'adopting' a flock though. A few years ago I noticed a couple of them that were wintering on the river by my workplace. There are parks on both banks of the river. Upon further investigation I found that they had wing injuries. Being the big softee I am at heart, I start to take them some bread scraps from lunch leftovers (ya, I know). After relizing that they were pretty much screwed in the food department I decided to buy a bag of shell corn to feed to them. It began with 3 birds. I've had up to 14 of them in the middle of winter. This has been going on for 5 years now and I can visually recognize the individuals. Had one join last winter that was mising the top of it's beak. It was nicknamed Nobeak. I had to put corn into a small plastic bowl for it as it couldn't pick it off the ground with a broken beak. It dissappeared early this spring. It was still able to fly. The flock I feed are all grounded and that's why I do it. They cannot fly off to greener pasture and I feel bad for them. Some have asked me why there are so many with injury and the only thing I can figure is that they are hitting the high voltage power lines that cross the river right in their landing path on the river. There is a bit of Angel Wing going on, but usually they just start out with an injury. They get the Angel Wing from everyone at the park feeding them bread because they cannot fly to other food sources. I occasionally get out of town cobra chickens that want to muscle in on the free corn. Had to buy a lsingshot to mitigate that problem. My food is for Handicaps only! (and ducks...ducks are fine...not violent like the cobra chickens)
Don't think it hasn't been considered. They literally run to me. lol Times ain't got quite that bad yet.
