replacing a worn out 026 have heard a lot about the 241. I currently have an 044 for bigger stuff just looking for saw for smaller stuff, tops limbing etc. Any suggestions? I'm thinking a 14" or 16" bar will be fine. Thanks!:)

Both great saws. Are you thinking new or used?

Food for thought....currently in Canada, a new MS 261 C-M is on sale and cheaper than the MS 241 C-M.

New. I haven't really compared prices on both. Guess I just assumed the 241 would be slightly less expensive

42.6 cc vs 50.2 cc at the same weight....I'd go 261.;)

So they basically weigh the same? I thought the 241 would be noticeably lighter

Not much you can't cut with a 261, plus you can use it all day and not wear yourself out. Can't imagine you would notice 1 lb extra weight or $10 less in your wallet.

Post some pics of what ever you decide on and let us know how you like it.

Sounds like your going to have a very merry Christmas!

That's the kind of info I was interested in. Thanks! So it sounds like a 261 would have a bit more power than my old 026 did new.

Yep 261 all the way, I've got a nice 026 that I love, but a 261 will out cut it right outta the box. 16" bar with LP chain & they're really fast & light.

I think the 261 is only $50 more and it is only a pound more.

I think a stock 261 will smoke nearly every stock 026.

I LOVE the way a 241 handles. Now, a 261 has more power for sure, but the 241 was built to be used for limbing and light bucking/felling. The 261 is more of an all around firewood saw. If you are looking for something light and “flickable”, the 241 just has an unbeatable feel IMO. If you want as much power as possible at the 11lb mark, then I think the 261 fits the bill a little better.

The biggest difference is in the bar and chain. The 241 is setup for Picco chain and has a single stud bar mount utilizing the lighter, narrower, 3005 mount bars. The 261 uses the same 3003 mount bars (two studs) the bigger saws use and typically has .325” chain although 3/8” is an option.
