Maple I think, splits a little stringy though which is not like maple. I thought this was Hickory with dinosaur bark and splits super stringy. From what I’ve read here. Could this be elm instead? Also smells like manure. Hurt my back last weekend so no hoarding for a while Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
back injury, that S@#%S, Did you get any of that oak and mulberry? I got some form of sciatica in mid January, but have been trying to hoard on. Of course the almost constant hoarding doesnt help. The heating pad is my best friend in the evenings.
btw cigarsmokingzombie you are correct on wood ID's, first is either red or silver maple, me thinks red, and the second is hickory...very stringy and does have a peculiar smell...maybe pignut variety?
I bailed on the oak tree, the guy wasn’t ready when I showed. Then helped my buddy move later in the day. A thousand pound hutch killed me...felt a twinge I’ve never felt before ever. Back is not getting better. That killed my Mullberry plans for last Sunday and further hoarding for now Now all I do is inventory my current hoard, drink and smoke cigars. Not good. I’ve never split maple and found it to be stringy at all. Usually it just explodes in the splitter. This one looks like maple but splits weird. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
its probably silver maple...a major b%$#h if it drys a bit. I got a large one years back, had to cut 12" rounds and noodled the whole thing. My maul bounced right off it after several whacks. I vowed never to touch the stuff again. I know with mine it wasbnt sudden and the next gay im like damm it never hurt like that before. Lower left side and shoots down left leg. It hurts when i yawn or cough too! Wierd! Take care of the back, be safe and ill hoard an extra PU full of wood in your honor!
Good man Buzzsaw. Send me the truckload pick. It better be massive! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would recommend some prolific pounding of Gatorade for both you gents. You have strained back muscles. Yes they usually appear from overexertion but the true cause comes from dehydration or lack of proper hydration. Gatorade for all it’s evils will both hydrate and relieve the muscle pain. Try it, should see a difference pretty quick. Start at 40-60 ounces a day.
Nope not all of em You May need to take up reloading for some of your fettishes. LOL Here it is in a nutshell. Unless you have an underlying medical condition back pain is caused by the muscles attempting to keep your spine in an unnatural position. The reason the muscles do that is because the discs in your spine have compressed and the muscles are attempting to keep the nerves from being crushed. The reason the discs compress is lack of hydration. Think of them as waterbeds without enough water. Sciatica is nothing but a nerve being crushed. Leave it in that condition long enough and paralysis can occur. Got the T-Shirt. Both you guys are in the first stage. Trust me there are many more circles of hell you can yet go through. Even a fully blown disc can rejuvenate itself with time and hydration. Severed spinal nerves cannot.
I agree with jo191145 that hydration is neglected by most-I drink lots of coconut water and also drink apple cider vinegar and honey twice daily for hydration and potassium, the lack thereof being responsible for muscle cramping along with dehydration...I dont drink Gator Aid due to the high-fructose corn syrup but many do, including my logger best friend that works year round exerting himself-eight bottles of water should be the minimum you take in and not on the day in the act when you exert-everyday and heavily thereafter...just my .2 cents worth
I’ve found over the years after my back has healed as well as it ever will that during the summer months water just isn’t enough. Could drink it till I puke. Always drank 40 oz of Gatorade a day during the summer months plus water or I’ll stop walking. Buying the stuff off a roach coach at work. Now if you have a better more healthy approach I’m all for that. Coconut water and honey? I’m down with that. Gatorade isn’t the most healthy thing you can drink but it worked for me. I even mixed Vodka with it on those hot summer nights when I wanted a cocktail but knew my back was close to shutting down. LOL
There are more posts for free solid wood hutches on Craigslist than for free logs! Those things are a curse. They were a fad for awhile, like armoires. I hope you recover.
Bragg’s Organic or equivalent apple cider vinegar 2 tbs, 2 tbs of honey, better if locally produced for the allergen protection and 8oz of water 15 min prior to eating every meal-it lubes your joints, adds hydration absorption, provides great potassium to prevent cramps and will actually cause you to eat less-add more water or honey if you dont like the taste or tolerate the ACV well-its not for everyone but the benefits are proven-I’ve been on it 2 yrs and believe me, my body is high mileage...
In addition to the hydration, some simple simple stretching exercises can help redistribute the fluid in the discs and alleviate the nerve crushing. We tend to be bent forward most of the time which can cause the fluid in the discs to get squished to one side of the disc. This book and the exercises in it helped me a lot.
