Sounds like one of the old sand-cast models.... Not my area of expertise but maybe somebody here has one?
Might try this thread from a couple of years back by our "Administrator" DexterDay ! He may have more information on the saw since I guess he owned one or still owns one(?) maybe! Stihl MS 362C-M vs Poulan 31 (vintage:1968) | Firewood Hoarders Club
Here's another thread: Old Poulan model 31 | Firewood Hoarders Club And some extra info: Model Profile: 31
Nope its not in my wheelhouse lol Mid 70's to mid 90's (before they went to chit lol) is what I'm used to dealing with...
I got the mint one in the thread for a past member here. But I do have one myself. Although it was painted black by a previous owner. But still has character. They definitely are not fast and no real woekhorse.
Having problems with the recoil. Once you pull it out, it won't go back in. I also need a carb cover. Any suggestions for either problem?
It's clean inside. No dirt, rust or anything. Not sure if it is getting stuck. I just know it's not working.
What do you mean by carb cover? Can you snap a pic? My saw is just a show saw. I'll send you whatever you need if I have it on mine?
It's missing the circled black thing. Need to figure how to get the recoil fixed. Can't start it the way it is now.
My recoil doesn't turn. May be because the saw is locked up. Never looked into it because it's just an old saw that sits in my basement. But I could send you the air filter and housing and possibly the recoil for a nominal fee? Or I would send the whole saw to you for extra parts for $50 (that's shipped). The saw was painted black by the previous owner. Still has about 99.9% of everything there.
I just acquired a model 31 from a yard sale for a whopping $4. I bought a throttle rod and air filter and put those on...anyone mind telling me the start up process? I can hear it trying to turn over but doesn’t start. Not sure what type of spark plug I need. I used a 16:1 mixture also
Have one on the way at a reasonable price.Very clean, good compression, dont know about spark.Looks pretty cool though, nice addition to my lineup of old Poulans. Located about 3 hours to my NE,for the price the Seller charged me for shipping I cant pay for gas at that rate. Not to mention the 6 hour round trip being I'm too busy to take a road trip right now. The one that I'm really hoping/waiting for is the Model 92 gear drive,a late 60's 6.1 cube/100cc beast. It was the biggest one in Poulan's product line.Pretty rare I've only seen 3-4 total in 20 some years & none were for sale to my knowledge.Usually when a collector has one they tend to hang on to it.
