Fresh dusting of snow in the mtns
Time to start filling the basement with 3+ year old birch
Guessing about 4-1/2 cords left from the 16/17 woodshed section
Mild winters & cat stove has reduced consumption

+1 on the chute! I wish I could rig something up like that but it would require cutting a hole in the foundation. A walkout basement was high on the (my) priority list when looking for our current home. We found one with everything we wanted but a bulked. Not looking forward to the 1,000s of trips up and down coming up.

Hopefully this doesn't mean we won't get pictures of your journeys to the cutting area this year.

No bulkhead? Then you have a walk-in basement? I use one similar to this at times. Works fine.

That's good to hear Dave. That is, snow in the mountains and the firewood lasting longer. Hearing about snow dusting in the mountains makes us think cooler weather is just around the corner now.

bogydave great system you have there. Always love looking at your photos!

Warner we have an covered outside cement staircase to basement not bilco
when I need to bring something heavy down it, I put a couple of 2x8s the full length of the stairs, and slidestuff down or up.
Worked for my old oil burner up and the new one down. Old oil tank up and new one down also
For wood you could mount a rubbermade tote on top of a movers dolly and slide it down and roll to storage and unload.
Make the wood act as rails to guide dolly down. Might have to double up 2x8s so wheels don't hit step.

sounds like the shed needs an addition

my sister has a 8 inch insulated chimney for her stove but it doesn't look quite so huge painted flat black and mostly hidden in a chase.

    Nice wood chute.
When I lived in Ak. I built a daylight basement.
There was not room to store wood in the basement, so I build a wood door next the stove.
Just stacked the wood by the door. Didn't have to go out at night for wood.
The wood shed was right outside that door. Actually the best wood setup
    I have ever had.
That snow on the mountains....we called it termination dust.
Has the fireweed topped out yet?

Get yourself a metal slide, from a kid's old swing set, let them splits side right down,, move it out of the way when you're not using it, it would be a lot lighter than anything made from wood.

Which isn't really that hard to do...even if you had to hire it done, I don't think it would cost much to have a mason mortar a wood chute in there...would be money/time well spent compared to carrying wood in forevermore.

I have tried that, only so many slide down till it backs up, then when you are at the bottom stacking it all slides down on you.
