Picked up an 036 last week that needed some minor things one of them being a muff mod,so with some free time today I checked out my options and went with this.

The 3 marker marks were one option either a a few holes or one long opening with a screen and another option were some sharkfin type, but chose this with a homemade deflector

Made the deflector out of an old poulan muffler I had lying around.

    Test fit looked good.

Used a small bolt to hold the delector and screen in place.

Just gotta install a new fuel line tomorrow and tune it. After I cleaned up the new line showed up in the mail.

I am just putting an 034Super muffler cover on my 036 for a dual port. You can also just widen the exhaust hole on the other side. But I like your mod with the fire screen. I have to run my saws with screens here, or face a fat fine.

That deflector worked perfect. Good job. Let us know how it worked out.

My 036 is my only untouched saw. I have a set of Caner rings and have wanted to do a Muff mod. But it runs so good as is, I can't stand to change it yet. But it's time is short lived, I will be tearing into it, to put the Cabers in and do a MM

(BTW- your parts should show tomorrow or Sat)

That's a very fine example of a clean 036 also.
