We don’t start until May 1 here, but I’ve got the fever already!! Got a few new calls yesterday and been watching plenty of action on tv. Did get a few birds on camera the other day. Hope they stick around for a while and stay away from the coyotes!!
Lawd J. Dirt....don't get me thinking bout that already, our season don't open till April 9th (I think) this year.......
Anyone’s season open yet? We got a few weeks and unfortunately there has t been a whole lot of turkeys out and about yet.
Season opened here yesterday. Heard a few birds but nothing good to set up on, saw a few at the other farm but they were already headed where they wanted to go and couldn't get around on them. Has been quite windy here lately, hope that lays down soon. Probably won't get to hunt again till next weekend.
I'm starting to see strutters out on the field edges. We are still two weeks from tomorrow for opening day.
Was off work to go crappie fishing last Friday and the wind decided to blow 40+ mph. Sooo sitting on the couch I hear a gobble….. then another…. I look out the front window of the house and right there in the yard!!!
My son took this Jake last Monday on our season opener. Called him in from another zip code. Note the hole in the tent screen. I took this long beard last Friday. Had to work for this one. Over 2.5 miles walk in and another 2.5 miles walk out but now carrying a 20+lb bird. Well worth it IMHO. 9" beard and 1" spurs
Tagged out! Took my wife out for a cool 35 F early morning hunt near our cottage and was able to call in 2 toms. Took this one on a hill we call Blueberry Mountain overlooking the lake. Pretty sure this is the first gobbler ever taken in this neck of the woods. 8 1/2" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.
I did not know about this turkey thread. I put some pics in the other one. So here is a jake I popped this morning.
Mossberg 395T. Reliable as an anvil, 28”full fixed choke. It is a turkey gathering machine and I love the factory fixed rear sight. Bury half of the front bead into it, the pattern with 5 shot lead is amazing at 40 yards for such an old gun. I bet those guns were near $100 new in hardware stores. One doesn’t need a $1000 turkey gun to have fun in the woods. edit, I read somewhere Mossberg made Western Auto
