Yea, but red pine has lots of resin when you split it. I cut off all the limb knobs because they have so much fatwood in them its crazy

Black birch is cherry birch. I got a ton of that at the quarry. I think someone said it but yea it smells like wintergreen and some people like it...
Iv heard of people doing that the opposite way in summer, then the tree tries to survive and suck all the moisture up into the leaves
I do that to trees on my property all the time. It works well.
