Our Malamutes sure were tough till they turned 3ish. The Floyd on the other hand is a laid back couch tater.Even if he takes up 3/4's of it :picard:

This is why I went with a wood stove verses a pellet stove. Still have heat and can cook also make my wifes coffee (without it she is not so pleasant)

We are very close where we live. I agree Boxelder is decent firewood. Also easy to get in our neck of the woods. Maybe not so much for others...
Going on 4 years with mine sometimes I get nervous also. Anxiety is my issue. Dry wood is the key it takes along time to get there but it is worth it.
