id try it whats a gasket cost ? if it doesnt work then have the head resurfaced but id say it will be fine
looks like about half it was leaking and as you said most noticeable from 12 to 2 between the 2 bolts
how much looser ? any wear from it or can see where oil flowed on either the head or cylinder ? its possible it just needs a gasket and bolted...
how did the gasket look ?
sit the cylinder side of the head on glass and use a feeler gauge to see if you can slide it under anywhere

dont know what caused it bo but id take head off and have it machined make sure your head bolts are good and havent pulled
